The vegetable garden that someone had started has seen some improvements. I relocated the tomato plants so that they will get more sun, planted some garlic as well as some wheat grass that I had left over from a catering function. Everything has taken off, especially the wheat grass, and the tomatoes are about to put on flowers.

There is also some horseradish mixed in with the garlic, both of which should do well over the winter. Lemon Verbena is coming back after being very dry and starting to drop it's leaves. It has put on new growth, increased in height and volume has increased as well.
Mint is growing along side the Lemon Verbena and they should do very well together. Mint has a tendency to take over everything as is difficult to eradicate. The Verbena should grow in height to be above the mint, providing it a bit of shade from the hot summer sun as well as leaving it plenty of room to spread along the bed.

Basil is dominating the third bed and should handle the winter well. As the temperature continues to drop I will put a heavy mulch in the bed in order to protect the roots. In the spring I might trim back the basil in order to prevent it from getting too "leggy" and to promote a bushier plant.

The Compost pile still needs lots of work. I continue to add fruit and vegetable scraps but am in desperate need of leaves and/or grass clippings. Currently I am raking up the fallen leaves from the surrounding trees in order to provide some brown matter to the pile but need much more in order to have a healthy and active compost pile. Please drop off any clippings or leaves in the small wooded area behind the old Academy and I will work it into the pile.
